Heather Bonnie Reid is a Northern Irish artist, she uses her muscle and memory in performances to share and chart emotional landscapes. Her work attempts to give voice and form to sensations and states of mind otherwise experienced in isolation or shame.
Clay and metal sculptures are present alongside performances, quietly holding the histories of their materials and forging. Her work recalls lessons from her mother, grandmothers, body, sewing machine, from bullies and the sea. Heather’s art is an expression of existing in an aftermath; being aware of many threads and ropes of personal and national history but never with a hand grasped firmly on each with the power to wield them. The work washes in from this confusion like stones or softened glass thrown onto darkened shores.

Heather graduated from BA Fine Art at Newcastle University in 2017. She was awarded the John Christie Award for Outstanding Performance and the Hatton Purchase Prize. Heather has since shown work and around the North East and in Bergen Norway, most recently at system Gallery as part of Mani Kambo’s show Semblance. She will be showing new work at Kathryn Elkin Seminar Day at Baltic39 in December. With the support of the Northern Charter Bursary she is buying power tools and hosting life drawing sessions.
