Heath Bunting

artist talk & intimacy encryption workshop

Wednesday 13th March 2019
artists talk
4.30pm - 6pm. Doors open at 4.15pm. Free

Artist Heath Bunting will be talking about his long-term projects followed by a Q & A with Dr. Beryl Graham, Professor of New Media Art and co-founder & editor of CRUMB, Sunderland University.

Heath Bunting's long-standing practice is rooted in strategic, radical and tactical projects on the internet and in public space including graffiti, net.art, pirate radio, AI and performance. He is a member of 'irational.org' and he has been credited as one of the co-founders of ‘net.art’.

Heath has been banned from entering the USA for his border crossing and anti-genetic modification work, and for his 2008 Status Project Tate commission the ‘Map of Terrorism’ he was interrogated by Sussex Police. They now have it hanging on their wall and use it as a tool to reverse map terrorist activities.

Commissioned by a wide range of institutions and organisations, Heath Bunting has exhibited internationally including- The New Museum, New York, Tate Modern, London, Transmediale, Berlin, Documenta X, Kassel, Germany, The Banff Centre, Canada, Lovebytes Festival, Sheffield, England, Art Teleportacia, Moscow, ICA, London, The InterCommunication Center (ICC), Tokyo, Apex Art, New York, Proboscis, London, The Watershed, Bristol, amongst others.

A workshop in how to communicate securely over any media using nothing more than sharing some special time together.

It has been consistently shown that the majority of the most pessimistic predictions of criminality by corporations, governments and empires have come true

In a time when ubiquitous surveillance is used against all of our commercial, political and military best interests; personal, organisational and community communications security becomes an immediate basic need

We are mostly taught that security and privacy are built on creating distance

In my experience, getting very close to people is often a better strategy, hence intimacy encryption: used very effectively by former fluffy groups such as Irish Republican Army and Palestine Liberation Organisation
Thanks to Professor Dr. Beryl Graham.
